Meet Shakele

Writer. Model. Educator. Creative.

Hailing from the mighty streets of Brooklyn, NY, Shakele is a published author, model, and educator. A true creative at heart, Shakele hopes to use her art as a means to inspire the spirits and hearts of those around her so that they too may see the beauty of the world.

Of our world— our home.

Shakele started her modeling journey back in 2016, making strides in both the runway and editorial arenas.

She is a published cover model, being featured on the covers of Arizona Coffea Magazine (2021) and SaintEight Magazine (2021).

She has participated in runway shows such as the Ankara Bazaar (Washington, D.C.), Shades of Beauty (NY), Mode en Couleur (NY), as well as worked with various local photographers, designers, clothing and jewelry brands to create breathtaking photo projects and create brand/marketing campaigns for small businesses.

In April 2017, Shakele published her first book of poetry called “Floodgates”, which is a personal journey through young adulthood. It covers different domains: love, sisterhood, femininity, black womanhood, mental health, race, and (well-) being.

These poems are reminders that we are full of life, even if we may seem a little messy from time to time. It is embracing that rawness that makes us beautiful. That makes life full.

The Girl & the Orange Dress is a photo project that Shakele started back in 2019 to showcase the power of black beauty in beautiful spaces, namely throughout Brooklyn and New York City.

Through the project, she has been able to work with phenomenal creatives, designers photographers, videographers, directors, fellow models, and the like, to connect and create art that will continue to speak volumes. Our art will continue to tell our stories.

Shakele has been able to take the dress to Brooklyn, Harlem, Manhattan, Los Angeles to continue to wander the streets in her gorgeous orange tulle gown. She hopes to travel the world, and touch the hearts and minds of those who meet her with, not only with the beauty of the stylish dress, or that of a radiant woman, but with the beauty of each other and of life itself.

The Girl & the Orange Dress is a mirror, reminding us of how beautiful we are. How beautiful this earth is. How we are the embodiment of love and life itself.

How beautiful.
